Investing without direct financial return

The Commons’ new mall in Saladaeng, Thailand, is a hyper-local lifestyle hub that invites city dwellers to decelerate. They actually want to build a community first, then a shopping mall - via @thefuturelaboratory

For their latest venue the focus is on the wellbeing of the local community. Split into three areas – The Ground, The Market and The Platform – more than 30% is open-air public space for Saladaeng residents to enjoy. The downstairs Ground area features industrial fans, plants and seating that are modular, allowing visitors to enjoy activities, music performances and relax away from the bustle of Bangkok living.

Spaces are typically managed with a (in)direct financial return in mind. But what amount of that space would be worth investing in wellness, without being able to calculate the financial return of it?
